A smaller entry of 929 Store and Breeding Sheep forward which had been affected by the Blue Tongue movement restrictions and the drought conditions locally.
FLOCK EWES
A good show of 203 flock ewes saw strong demand for well backed ewes which were suitable for early lambing. The leaner sorts also found favour with buyers albeit at a lower price.
Well backed Welsh Mules (4 & 5 y o) sold to £185 and £184 from D Davies, Newcastle. Texel crosses sold to £174 and £168. Beltex crosses ( 4 & 5 y o) and Lleyn crosses to £165 from P & R Jones, Llanellen.

YEARLING EWES
A good entry of 630 yearling ewes, generally lacking the size and condition after a dry spring and shortage of grass throughout the summer. The local sheep were most adversely affected whereas those from further afield appeared to have summered better.
The Suffolk crosses were in short supply and met the greatest demand, with prices peaking at £240 per head on three occasions. Messrs W M Watkins & Sons, Grosmont saw their two pens reach this figure, whilst J Griffiths, Rhiwderin also attained the same price.
The best of the Texel crosses sold to £230 from T R & J Harris, Bonvilston, whilst a good consignment from Mr & Mrs W G Thomas, Caerleon saw their best fetch £220. A superb consignment of nearly 300 homebred Welsh Mules from Percy jenkins, Croesyceiliog saw the pick of the run selling to £210 with the majority £165 - £185.
Average £191.36 - (- £15.52)
